SHOREWINNER Hosts Portuguese Local CoVE Event on Offshore Renewable Energy Skills

On 20 May 2026, the SHOREWINNER project organised the Portuguese Local Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) Event at the Alfândega Porto Congress Centre, bringing together experts, industry representatives, and vocational education stakeholders to discuss the future of offshore renewable energy skills in Southern Europe.

The event focused on the challenges and opportunities linked to scaling offshore wind and ocean energy, with particular attention given to workforce readiness, vocational excellence, and stronger cooperation between education and industry.

As part of the programme, SHOREWINNER moderated the session “The Offshore Moment: Are We Ready to Scale?”, which explored the key factors required to accelerate offshore renewable deployment, including technology, investment, regulation, and the development of specialised skills for the sector.

The discussion featured contributions from Teresa Nogueira, José Pinheiro, Manuel Costeira da Rocha, João Amaral, and Álvaro Ortega Sebastián, who shared practical insights, sector expertise, and perspectives on the future development of offshore renewable energy across the region.

The event also highlighted SHOREWINNER’s ongoing work to strengthen vocational excellence and regional skills ecosystems in Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, and Cyprus. By fostering collaboration among vocational education providers, industry actors, and regional stakeholders, the project aims to support the development of a skilled workforce capable of meeting the evolving needs of the offshore renewable energy sector.

SHOREWINNER continues to build momentum towards a stronger Southern European community for offshore wind energy through dialogue, knowledge exchange, and cross-sector cooperation.
